taste it! J-Sin's musings...

Oh my! What should we all do!?

this is the thought of Democrats and liberal activists everywhere, along with despair, depression, and other "d" words that don't begin with "delight"...

Well, here's my suggestions for what the Democrats and liberals should concentrate on for the future.

  • Get back the media. Ever since the whole nonsense of "liberal bias in the media" has been perpetuated by the conservatives and the rightwingers, the mainstream media has been falling all over itself to make sure it's "fair and balanced". Of course this actually results in them placating the right to a point where it becomes completely skewed to the right, leaving behind criticism of the vast rightwing conspirators to concentrate on something else that affects negatively the lefties. Air America ain't gonna cut it on satellite radio. We need the majors OR our own crazy cable network.

  • Fight back dirty. While I fully understand the consequences of dirty politics and am against it wholeheartedly and it pains me to even suggest something that goes against my entire philosophy of what politics and government is all about, it's essential to the survival of the Democrats and liberal agenda. We need a Rove on OUR side--someone who has no veins that pump blood but just pure unadulterated venom. I want to see drug abuse problems like Rush Limbaugh's brought into the spotlight and banded about more and more. I want to see mean leaks of sex scandals. I want to see every conservative's dirty laundry hanging about flapping in the wind for us all to see. Everything should be exposed. I'm not advocating cheating like what Rove did in Ohio and other states with paperless vote trails, but things like this need to be exposed.

  • Blame everything on the right. Any problem that results in the next four years can truly and adequately be blamed on the Republicans. They own everything and have steel-fisted control of the House, the court system to a degree, voting control of the Senate (though they can't stop all the filibusters that you should be doing each and every opportunity you get), the White House, and all the media. But with all that control comes the blame. And what was never adequately done in the 2004 campaign was spotlighting that blame. You need to roll up your sleeves and get dirty with the sweat of retorting every bad thing with "well you've had eight years to do something and you've failed".

  • Push for real campaign finance reform. Disguise your desire to level the playing field by saying that you want to rid the world of 527s. It's not to the advantage of the Democrats by keeping 527s around. In the legislation remove the tax-free status of any church that engages in any sort of political campaigning. In 2004, the Catholic Church came out with "voting guides". These were an attempt to politicize religion and by the law they should have their tax-free status ripped from their limbs. When a church buses in voters to the polls, do you honestly think that there was no discussion of what candidate the church wanted you to vote for? Discuss how every campaign should be publicly financed. You can even bait the Republicans by suggesting that George Soros shouldn't be allowed to finance millions to a Presidential campaign. Get Russ Feingold and McCain on it and have your new leader proclaim how it will be the good of America to rid any sort of special interest money from any campaign--Americans on both sides of the fence really do want this, hell that's what pisses off most American voters in the first place and makes them so uninterested.

  • Get better candidates. Enough with the boring candidates. Enough with trying to beat the Republicans at their own game. You'll never get the hard Christian vote as long as you support abortion (as you should!), so don't try. Kerry was a bore and while he has had moments of greatness (who could forget his trouncing of Bush during the first debate? or his acceptance speech at the DNC?) overall Americans felt like he was a boring person who was "stony faced". Get young vibrant candidates with real fresh ideas, not some jackass that proclaims to inject new ideas into the fold. You guys have the Tiger Woods of the Senate on your side now with Barack Obama, get more of that type of caliber. The strength of the Democratic party is that they're supported by the minorities in our country. You better act on this quickly because there's a whole conservative youth movement that gained a huge heaving of momentum with this Tuesday's thievery. And for fuck's sake make sure you run a candidate in every district and have them talk about how the crusty guy that's been in office for twenty years hasn't done anything for them. The high incumbent rate is in part because you guy's allow people to run unopposed. Sure the Republicans do it too on occasion but not nearly as often.

  • Stop being so centrist. Every pundit in the world stated how the two presidential candidates didn't differ that much on some pretty polarizing issues. That sounded like a rehashing of the 2000 election where Gore said he agreed with his rival on far too many issues. You guys have the environment, so start talking about it. Stop the nonsense about not supporting gay marriage--guess what there's GOING to be gays and lesbians out there who want equal rights and there's going to be another civil rights movement but this time it's going to be a gay one. By pitter pattering around the issue by barfing up nonsense like "civil unions" you've discredited yourself and made yourself not very firm. That's what the conservatives have--SPINE--and a stubborn attitude of "I'm right and you're fucking wrong". We liberals need that too. We should say "marriage is defined by the states as an institution of rights" and that it has no basis in religion. Shake your fist and say get your damn Bible outta my face you zombie, this is the really real world bitch! Look down at the ground, draw the line, and say "hey I'm on this side" and famously boast "you're either with us or against us"! You should promote stem cell research as an agenda of the Democratic Party. Why? Because most Americans once they're informed will support it. Don't let the dickheads on the pulpits define it as some nonsensical death-to-God's-lifegift--it's fucking little cells that can save life. If the wackjobs come and whack you with their nonsense, hit back with talk of Reagan's disease or Arnold's support. Moderate Republicans support this initiative too as does anyone with half a brain. Don't worry about courting the religious nutjobs, they're not going to support you anyways.

  • Be anti-war. While this goes along with the above, it's important enough to be its only bullet/talking point. Most of your followers were against the war in Iraq but did Kerry ever really come out and say "this war is wrong." and stick with it? No. Every time you idiots come out supporting a war that has nothing to do with humanitarian causes it comes back to haunt you. Just embrace the fact that you're peaceniks.

  • Remind people who was in office during 9/11. I can't believe how fundamentally flawed this election was. You should have hit hard with "it's Bush's fault". That's exactly what the Republicans would have done with Gore in office. They would have filed the impeachment papers on 9/12. They were incredibly smart to embrace 9/11 as their own and you sat by and let them do it. The very next day you should have pushed for a commission to investigate and not let Bush lowball you by delaying it for so long. People love to point fingers and you should have been all index fingering the entire administration for its failure to protect America. Why did you have to rely on a Michael Moore to do that for you? The Democrats need to stop the backpedaling and come out hard with fists flying on each and every mistake. Every time Bin Laden makes a new video, hit Bush with "where the hell is he?", "why isn't he dead or in jail yet?", etc. Grow some balls, don't let them hijack it and say it was Clinton's fault for not killing Bin Laden. Why didn't Bush kill him?

  • Stop the numbers games. We already know that for the most part Americans are dumb. How did Clinton win? He appealed to their emotions and seemed like a nice dude. Throwing numbers and statistics around isn't going to win over the undecided retards out there. You're already going to get the mentally elite people. Let Chomsky and other elite thinkers of our time crunch the hard stuff out. Placate the dumbies out there with pandering bullshit about the moral compass. Instead of talking about 1% of the most wealthy, talk about how immoral it is to give a tax cut to the rich while cutting troops pay.

Well that's the first stepping stones that I think liberal and Democrats need to chew on before they can really move on. Focus on the importance of crushing the GOP in 2006 and gaining back the House. Start having groups sue the bejesus out of GOPers and make sure you're crushing DeLay with ethics violations--even if there's no merits to them, keep about a vision in the media that something is decidedly wrong with way DeLay and others govern our nation. Sure it sucks that the election was stolen but prove that it was and you'll get 60% of the vote next time. And for fuck's sake, stop whining! Move on indeed!
